Initially when internet was at its infancy stage there were static web pages available on the internet. These static web pages were created by few who own and know how to create a website and the rest were readers who know how to access these web pages and read the content in the web page and believe in what they have posted. so the posting of internet content was restricted to few Computer and technology giants. This stage of WEB was called as WEB 1.0
Now Every user of internet can post content on the internet. This stage of web is called WEB 2.0 where you can do social networking(example orkut),subscribe to a web page, post your content on the web by creating a blog.
Example: in wikipedia.com website we can read any article and if we feel that some more content has to be added or some corrections has to be made on the content of the web page, then we have a edit button to edit that article.
Also blogs allow us to post our own content on the web as a web page. So every internet user has the liberty of posting and commenting on the web content.
Suppose if your a regular visitor or reader of a blog or a web page and you search for the new content on the web page. Instead of doing so you can just subscribe to the web page and just check if there are new posts or articles in that web page. So you can get the updates.
